Denton

Poised on a hill overlooking the Choptank River, Denton has a picturesque Courthouse Green surrounded by colonial revival style homes. Downtown Denton’s Museum of Rural Life depicts historical lifestyles of rural Caroline County. The museum includes the Taylor-Brown Dwelling, the Painter’s Range log cabin and portions of the Chance’s Desire and Skillington’s Right properties.

Denton hosts a variety of events throughout the year. The annual Caroline Summerfest in August is a free, family oriented event featuring live entertainment, fine arts and crafts, strolling entertainment, free KidzArt activities, river cruises on the Choptank River, food, vendors, fireworks, hot-rods, and antique car displays.

As Denton is crisscrossed with rivers and one of the best ways to get into the rhythm of the community is to stop by the Choptank River Heritage Center and Joppa Steamboat Wharf in West Denton to rent a canoe or kayak or pick up a copy of the “Choptank & Tuckahoe River Guide” and take advantage of 15 self-guided heritage paddle trips.
